Channel: BBC 1Bob and Terry in the pub

Introduction: In the first of an occasional series of Postings featuring classic episodes from classic comedies, we look at probably the best known episode of Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads.  With th World Cup kicking off today and England’s first game tomorrow it seemed a good place to start.

Summary: When Bob and Terry decide to avoid finding out the result of the England match before the evening’s TV highlights things prove a little more difficult than they first thought.  Flint (played by Brian Glover) bets them ten pounds they can’t get through the day without finding out the result.  The lads go to all lengths, including hiding in the church, but it seems they are destined to loose their bet.  A close shave with a newspaper seller where Terry sees the headline England F…and finally they find refuge in Bob’s new house.  Flint tracks them down, desperate not to know the score Terry pays him off with a tenner (borrowed from Bob).  The lads finally make it to the TV highlights without knowing the score, but after all that the result turns out to be ‘England Flooded Out,’ the match has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
