Hancock’s Half hour, The Knighthood, 1959

In celebration of Her Majesty’s sixty year reign all this week we are going to pick some of the most popular comedies from the last sixty years.  During Jubilee Weekend we’ll launch a new section :”The Other Channel” for those who just can’t get enough vintage TV, more on that as we go through the week.

If you had to pick a standout TV comedy from the 1950′s it would almost certainly be Hancock’s Half Hour.

Originally broadcast on radio it made the transition to TV in 1956, three years into the new Queen’s reign.

We’ve covered both the radio and TV series in detail and you can pull them out of our archives.

As it’s Jubilee year we’ve picked a vintage episode to feature, The Knighthood.

Summary

Hancock decides he wants a Knighthood, giving up comedy to go into straight acting, so he can gain a Knighthood, he applies to the Old Vic but the job they have in mind is not what Hancock envisaged.
