Ant and Dec at the launch of their 2015 Saturday night takeaway series

Saturday Night Is Takeaway Night!

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, 2002

Saturday Nights have long been the night for TV entertainment.  Taking their influences from previous Saturday night light entertainment shows, most notably Noel’s House Party and Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush, popular presenters Ant & Dec produced their own prime time  Saturday Night series.

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, often referred to as Saturday Night Takeaway, is a television variety show presented and executively produced by Ant & Dec.  The show first hit our screens in June 2002 on ITV.

After making it’s ebut in 2002 rthe series was an instant hit, unbeaten in the ratings for four series in it’s timeslot.  However in March 2005 the hugely anticipated return of Doctor Who pushed it off it’s top spot.  Never the less the show would continue until 2010 when it had clocked up nine series.  With the end of series nine the duo put the show on hiatus whilst they persued the launch of two game shows Ant & Dec’s Push the Button and Red or Black?.

In November 2011, it was announced that Saturday Night Takeaway would return in early 2013.  Indeed it did return early in 2013 and has continued since.

Saturday Night Takeaway won the BAFTA for Entertainment Programme and Ant & Dec won Entertainment Performance for their role in the show in both 2014 and 2015.
