Take A Letter Mr Jones

Take A Letter Mr Jones – 1981

Another outing for John Inman, again short lived, he never seemed to equal the success he enjoyed in Are You Being Served ? despite being a hugely popular actor.

Take A Letter Mr Jones was an ITV production, written by the team responsible for On The Buses, that lasted just one series of six episodes.

Of course two of the cast (Gina Maher and Rula Lenska) would go on to appear in a rather well known soap opera: Coronation Street.

It’s another of those sitcoms hidden away in a cupboard that should get a re-airing, might be better received today where there’s a hungry market for vintage sitcoms.

Summary

It’s 1980’s England and whilst  Margaret Thatcher may have be in 10 Downing Street it’s still a very sexist world.

Graham Jones, is the able secretary to executive Joan Warner . Episodes primarily focused on the office and home life of Mrs. Warner, a divorced woman in her 30’s trying to balance her career and family, female executive , male secretary, working together in what was still a man’s world.
