The Royle Family – The Queen Of Sheba, 2006

It seemed fitting to use this episode of the hugely popular Royle Family to mark the passing of the actress who played Nana: Liz Smith.

“The Queen of Sheba” takes place six years after the events of the last series and features Nana’s declining health and death.  It won the ‘Best Sitcom’ award at the 2007 BAFTAs, and won the Royal Television Society award for ‘Best Situation Comedy & Comedy Drama’.

Liz Smith’s performance won her the ‘Best TV Comedy Actress’ award at the National Television Awards and was BAFTA nominated.

Summary

Tension mounts in the Royle household as the family contemplate the prospect of becoming fully laminated throughout.

Dr Mahmoud prescribes new medication for Nana in the form of yellow tablets; coincidentally they turn out to be the same colour as the tablets that Joe was prescribed for the swelling when he got his mickey stuck in his zip.

Meanwhile, a mysterious ginger visitor reminds Nana of her favourite musical.

Sadly as Barbera looks forward to her new flooring Nana Passes away.
