Hugh Dennis and Steve Punt star in the long running bbd radio series the now show on bbc radio 4

The Now Show

The Now Show, 1998

Proving that Radio comedy is still a force to be reckoned with: The Now Show is still going strong more than twenty years after it first hit the airwaves.

The series is a successor to popular early 1990’s topical comedy show, The Mary Whitehouse Experience, in which Punt and Dennis were a key part, although its origins lie with the short-lived Live on Arrival from 1988.

Punt and Dennis of course found fame with Jasper Carrott in his top rated 1980’s Saturday night shows Canned Carrott and Carrott Confidential.

The Now Show became the first Radio 4 comedy series to be made available on podcast, as part of a trial, or to be downloaded directly from the BBC Radio 4 web page, both for seven days after broadcast.

Summary

The show presents a mixture of  stand-up, sketches and songs.  There’s a monologue each week courtesy of  by Marcus Brigstocke, and music by Mitch Benn, Pippa Evans or Adam Kay.

Like many radio shows there is of course the Special Guest.
