The Two Ronnies Sketchbook

The Two Ronnies Sketchbook, 2005

Eighteen years after the final episode of The Two Ronnies was broadcast and following a hugely successful BAFTA tribute to Ronnie Barker came the six part series.

Six one hour episodes made up the series which was followed by a Christmas Special.   Sadly one series was all that was made as Ronnie Barker’s health was in evident decline.  He managed to record a final Christmas episode in July 2005, before sadly passing away aged just 76 in October the same year.

The series was a huge success gaining audiences of 7.9 million for the first episode.

Ronnie Corbett later said that Ronnie Barker was “delighted that the Two Ronnies Sketchbook had gone so well, bringing us to a new generation of audiences”.

Summary

Following the format of the original show, Messrs Barker and Corbett reunite to present a selection of their favourite sketches.  Each show featured newly recorded introductions and closing remarks from behind their famous news desk.  There was also a new performance each week from a popular singer, the ongoing serial was “The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town”
