Clapperboard

Clapperboard, 1972

A bit of an oddity for today’s Kids TV post.  How many remember the ITV Kids TV show that explored the world of cinema.

Running for a mammoth 293 episodes between 1972 and 1981, Clapperboard was aimed at the older kids 8 – 16 year olds.  It was created by then Senior Producer of Children’s Programs at Granada TV Muriel Young.  She went on to become Director of Children’s Television at Granada, but sadly upon her retirement the incoming Director cancelled Clapperboard and her other creation pre-school show A Handful Of Songs.

Summary

Clapperboard was a thoughtful and intelligent show that looked at films of the day, but also looked at the history and production of films.

There were interviews with many top stars from the film world from both sides of the camera and special episodes dedicated to the big films of the day that would interest it’s audience.
