Affairs Of The Heart

Affairs Of The Heart, 1985

Another forgotten 80’s sitcom, this one starring Derek Fowlds (Basil Brush, Yes Minister, Heartbeat).

Affairs of the Heart tells the semi-autobiographical tale of Peter Bonamy who has a heart attack.

Writer, Paul Daneman, had actually suffered a heart attack himself whilst performing in the West End.  By chance he had been portraying a man suffering from a heart attack and was able to draw on his experience for the series.

The series came about During Daneman’s recovery whilst waiting to be fit enough to return to acting again, he took up writing.  Affairs of the Heart was the result.

After a pilot episode in 1983 it would be almost two years before a full series was screened.  Starting in July 1985 with a re-working of the pilot episode Affairs of the Heart ran for just one series of six episodes.

Unusual for a sitcom of the time there was no audience at the recordings.
