Cooper and Walsh

Cooper and Walsh, 2014

The sitcom that should have been but never was

Last Of the Summer Wine ended in 2010.  Over it’s thirty year plus time on air it produced some of comedy’s greatest characters.  Among them were the two recurring support characters of P.C.’s Cooper and Walsh.

In October 2014, a crowd funding page was set up to try to raise the funds (£250,000) to make three episodes of a planned spin off series featuring the popular characters.  Last Of the Summer Wine producer Alan J.W. Bell was involved and a script had been written by Roy Clarke.

The project was advertised across national media/newspapers/radio and on social media platform Facebook.  Unfortunately the project failed, when on January 4th 2015, a post appeared on fan’s forum Summerwine.net “I have just received an e-mail from crowdfunder stating that the Cooper & Walsh bid has failed. What now I wonder?”

An online petition began on January 2016, but to date pleas from eager fans seem to have fallen on deaf ears.  It would appear that two episodes were made.

Summary

The series was to have revolved around the mis-adventures of two Yorkshire policemen: P.C. Cooper and P.C. Walsh.
