Harry Hill’s Fruit Corner

Harry Hill’s Fruit Corner, 1993

Comedian Harry Hill began his TV and Radio comedy career with Harry Hill’s Fruit Corner.  Hill had achieved his big break the year previous when he won the Perrier Award for Best Newcomer at the 1992 Edinburgh fringe Festival.  Fruit corner was commissioned shortly after.

Broadcast on BBC Radio Fruit Corner ran for twenty two episodes over four series between 1993 and 1997.  The series would become the stepping stone to his break into Television.

Summary

Hosting the show as himself, each week Harry would be joined by a number of characters (played by various people).  Characters included: his big brother Alan Hill, his three year old adopted son, Alan Hill Jr. his parents, Jan and Tony Hill, and his grandmother, Nana Hill. Latter series of the show often saw the family joined by Pink Panther legend Burt Kwouk.

The show also enjoyed a variety of celebrity guests across its run.

Presented in a conversational style, surreal humour was the base for many of the show’s jokes which were interspersed with other items that  tended to involve one or more members of the family, and later on roping in other recurring characters such as scientist Finsbury Park .
