The Canterville Ghost, 1974

The Canterville Ghost was originally a novella by Oscar Wilde.  It was the first of Wilde’s stories to be published, appearing in two parts in The Court and Society Review, 23rd February and 2nd March 1887.

Jump forward a mere 87 years.  Movie legend David Niven makes a rare TV starring role as the famous ghost.  For this one off TV version Niven brings some mischievous humour to the role.

When Mr. Hyram B. Otis and his family move to Canterville Chase, they are soon acquainted with the ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville.

Sir Simon, however, has a hard time with his hauntings – particularly when he is plagued by the family’s two sons. Could their beautiful daughter, Virginia, prove to be his salvation?
