Children Of The Stones, 1977
This seven part children’s TV drama series has been dubbed “the scariest programme ever made for children”.
From a time when children’s TV was rather good it won’t surprise any reader to know that of course it was made in the 1970’s. Despite the high regard in which it’s held and it’s popularity it only ran for one series of seven episodes.
The series was filmed in the summer of 1976 at a genuine circle of stones in the village of Avebury.
Interestingly the series has only been repeated once and that was by original broadcaster ITV between 21st July – 1st September 1978, at 16:15. Since then the show has not been broadcast in its entirety on UK television, either terrestrial or satellite.
Summary
The series followed the adventures of astrophysicist Adam Brake and his young son Matthew after they arrive in the small village of Milbury, which is built in the midst of a megalithic stone circle
