Hancock’s

Hancock’s, 1967

No it’s not Hancock’s Half Hour, which will be 70 later this year! but a complete departure for the comic as he gets his own variety show.

Tony Hancock had split from his successful writing partnership with Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, he’d also left the BBC.  He had returned to ITV where over the years he’d produced several series.

Hancock’s was his fifth and final series for the network.  It ran for six episodes in 1967.

Summary

Tony’s nightclub in Swinging London is aptly called ‘Hancocks’, but the only things he can rely on is his faithful hat check/waitress and Bunny girl Esmeralda and Toulouse his waiter/chef/cook/dish washer.

Each week he would host different guests, this was interspersed with his own sketches.

Clips

Nothing of the series survives in the archives except for this short clip.
