In Sickness And In Health, Series One, Episode Six, 1985
Alf and Else had returned. However Else was no longer in the best of health as was star Dandy Nichols.
Episode 6 was the final one in the first series and sadly would be Dandy Nichols’ (almost) final appearance in the show, she would reprise her role as Else once more in the Christmas Special later in the year), before her death in February 1986.
Summary
Alf is tired of pushing Else around in her chair and he feels she should have an electric scooter. However they cost £2500.
So it’s off to the DHSS to plead Else’s case. Unfortunately for Alf his case falls on deaf ears when the lady at the Social Security office tells him that as long as he is around to push his wife, Else cannot have one.
Alf decides to take matters into his own hands. Using an idea from some kids with a go-kart he adds a lawn mower engine to Else’s chair. Consequently the chair goes out of control foiling a bank robbery and landing Alf in hospital.
Alf is declared a hero but following Winston’s view that the robbers’ accomplices may be out to get him he ultimately decides it is best to remain anonymous.
