Parents Of The Band

Parents Of The Band, 2008

Parents Of The Band was a BBC sitcom that ran for just 6 episodes in 2008.

It’s a surprise it only managed 6 episodes as there was some seriously established heavy weights from the world of TV comedy behind it.  It was co-created by Jimmy Nail  of Auf Wiedersehen Pet fame, produced by Charlie Hanson whose successes included Desmond’s, Chef and The Big Impression.  To top that the scripts were edited by comedy scriptwriting royalty Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais whose huge successes included The Likely Lads and Porridge.  There was also theme music composed by Jimmy Nail and Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet).

Summary

Phil Parker is the Father of Jack , a drummer in a teen band with a number of his friends.

Recently separated from his wife Marketa, Phil was in a ‘one-hit wonder’ band in the 1980s, with the song “I Cry”.

Whilst Jack and his band are happy simply jamming and have fun, their parents have other plans, not because they disapprove, but because they also want to be a part of the rock-star lifestyle.

Ultimately the band enter into a talent contest.
