Auf Wiedersehen Pet – Series One, 1983

Now a regular fixture on UKTV freeview channel Yesterday.  It’s hard to believe that this now cult TV series is 35 years old, seems like only yesterday.

The now legendary Comedy Drama series made by Central TV for ITV ran for 13 episodes between 1983 and 1984, about a group of British Migrant construction workers and their antics whilst working on a building site in Germany.

When 7 out of work english construction workers are forced to look abroad for work they end up in West Germany.  Promised hotel accommodation fails to materialise and they find themselves  living together in a hut on site.

The series deals with the relationship between the men and follows them on a series of hilarious mis adventures, mis understandings and romantic disasters.  It’s not long before a change in the German tax laws force them to return home.

Dick and Ian should write another series of Auf .weidersehen Pet. I,m sure it could be done . but it should be set in UK.

If memory serves me right it bowed out as the actors themselves having lost two of the original members decide it was running out of steam. We’re enjoying repeats of series 2 on UK Drama 9.00 pm Fridays, but felt series four didn’t live up to the original 2 series.
