However we live in strange times in the UK, this was June 2022 and as the show was satirical it had to be current.  The writers had to throw away three scripts as the times kept changing.

Boris Johnson who had been the original focal point resigned so the writers considered the Queen as the focal point for a second script, sadly she passed away in September and of course coming just after was Prime Minister Liz Truss’ brief spell in charge and the  crashing financial markets and tanking polls.  And so they arrived at the show “Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image Saves The World” that premiered at the Birmingham Rep in February 2023.

Summary

The United Kingdom has fallen into a state of disrepair.  King Charles must step in and help.  He hires maverick Tom Cruise to help.

In a era where we are obsessed with superhero franchises and multiverses, it’s seems the natural way forward for  action star Cruise to assemble a ragtag team of celebrities to try and save the UK.

In keeping with the times (inclusive and diverse), Tom begins to form his team by first hiring RuPaul.  Still in keeping with the strange times we live in the pair launch a TV reality show to recruit the other members of The Fantastic Seven.

Joining Tom Cruise and Ru Paul to help save the UK are: Tyson Fury, Angela Rayner, Greta Thunberg, Meghan Markle, and Idris Elba.
They must do battle with “most evil men in the world”, a club consisting of Tory politicians, Donald Trump and James Corden.
