Arthur Askey Appears Before Your Very Eyes!

Before Your Very Eyes! 1952

Perhaps the earliest TV show we’ve featured.  Before Your Very Eyes was a TV sketch show that ran initially on the BBC and later on ITV.  The title was taken from Askey’s catchphrase “Before your very eyes”

It starred Arthur Askey and ran for 31 episodes over 7 series between 1952 and 1958.

Despite his high regard among fellow comedians ‘Before Your Very Eyes’ is not regarded as Arthur Askey’s finest work.

The show ran until 1955 on the BBC, before switching to ITV (Associated Rediffusion) in 1956 where it ran fortnightly.
