Carry On Up The Khyber, 1968

By 1968 the Carry On franchise had notched up fifteen films.  Carry On Up The Khyber was the 16th instalment, the title of which Khyber short for Khyber Pass rhyming slang for “arse” in true Carry On style.

Joining the regulars are Roy Castle who makes his only appearance in the series in the romantic lead role that was usually played by Jim Dale. Tery Scott returns after a brief role in Carry On Sergeant.

As was the tradition the film was shot at Pinewood Studios.   Location filming was beneath the summit of Mount Snowdon.  in September 205 a plaque was unveiled marking the spot filming took place.

Summary

The setting is India during the 1890s.

Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond is looking after the British outpost near the Khyber Pass.

Protected by the kilted Third Foot and Mouth regiment, you’d think they were safe, but the Khasi of Kalabar has other ideas.
