Proving that he could turn his hand to anything Paul O’ Grady enters the world of TV sitcom for his first and only outing with the format.
Eyes Down ran for two series on BBC1 between 2003 and 2004, totalling fifteen episodes.
It was written by a fellow Liverpudlian Angela Clarke. She started her writing career in 2001 after sending in her first hand-written script to the BBC New Writing Scheme (an initiative searching for new talent).
The BBC press release in 2003 advised that “She was promptly put through to the Women’s Comedy Scheme, where she was so successful that she was then commissioned to write her first BBC comedy, Eyes Down”
Despite being set in a Liverpool Bingo Hall the show was filmed in Rayners Lane in London.
Summary
Paul O’ Grady stars as the manager of the Rio Bingo Hall in Liverpool (where else), acting as both manager and caller he presides over a motley bunch of staff.
