Steamin’ And A Rollin’ It’s…….

Casey Jones, 1957

It’s time for another one of those ancient American TV shows that used to pop up during Kids’ holiday TV.  This particular show I remember popping up during the 1970’s summer holidays, although it had been around before even on UK television.

Casey Jones was an American Western series.  It ran for one series of thirty two episodes in the USA.

At the same time it was syndicated during what as the 1957-58 television season being shown in the UK on BBC and Australia on the Seven Network.  The series was a regular repeat fixture during the 1970’s kids summer holiday TV schedules.

The series was actually based on the life of a real person; Casey Jones, who was an engineer during the late 19th-century in the era of pioneering western railroads.

Casey Jones, offered a gentler Western series as opposed to the more violent adult shows of the time.  It featured the same classical types of plots as other westerns such as train robbers and vandals, but the episodes centered as much on Casey’s interaction with his family, particularly Casey, Jr.

Summary

Set in the late 19th century, TV series Casey Jones followed adventures of railroad engineer Casy Jones and the crew of the Cannonball Express steam locomotive, fireman Wallie Sims and conductor Redrock Smith, working for the Midwest and Central Railroad.
