Dad’s Army, 2016
As UKTV GOLD prepare to screen the first of their Dad’s Army Missing Episodes we take a trip back to 2016, the last time the classic show was ‘remade’ only last time it was a feature film and a whole new story.
In 2014 it was announced that a new Dad’s Army film was going into production. Clearly as most of the cast had passed on it was gong to mean a whole new cast. A new cast and Dad’s Army were nothing new as a touring stage production of some of the missing episodes was produced in 2007, starring amongst others Leslie Grantham.
On Friday 30th January, 2016 the film got it’s star studded premiere and along the way picked up the expected mixed bag of reviews although all seemed to give it a thumbs up.
The year is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army.
However in Walmington-on-Sea, morale among the local Home Guard is low. Things are about to change as they are given a new mission: to patrol the Dover army base .
This is the chance they’ve been waiting for, a chance to revive spirits and reputation, well until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert.
When MI5 discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea, suddenly there’s a spy on the loose!
The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.
