You can’t have a week of holiday posts and not include Basil Fawlty.  This classic episode kicked off season two and featured a superb performance from Joan Sanderson, of Please Sir fame as Mrs Richards.

Of course Joan Sanderson and Prunella Scales would later co-star as Mother and daughter in the radio then TV comedy series After Henry.

Personally this writer felt it was perhaps the best episode they ever made it was Basil at his best.

The arrival of the “guest from hell” — Mrs. Richards, a rather deaf, dotty and bad-tempered woman — interferes with Basil’s attempts to prevent the money he won on a racehorse from being discovered by Sybil, who disapproves of gambling.
