Fawlty Towers, Communication Problems, 1979
Fawlty Towers remains one of Britain’s most beloved sitcoms, even if it is over forty years since it ended.
Everybody has a favourite episode and this has to be one of the best. Communication Problems kicked off season two and featured a superb performance from Joan Sanderson, of Please Sir fame as Mrs Richards. It’s Basil at his best!
Of course Joan Sanderson and Prunella Scales would later co-star as Mother and daughter in the radio then TV comedy series After Henry.
Summary
The arrival of the “guest from hell” — Mrs. Richards, a rather deaf, dotty and bad-tempered woman — interferes with Basil’s attempts to prevent the money he won on a racehorse from being discovered by Sybil, who disapproves of gambling.
