The Thick Of It, 2005

Yes Minister The RE-  Generation?

If you discount the Spitting Image re-boot this was TV’s last dig at the establishment.

Often described as the 21st century’s answer to Yes Minister, The Thick Of It, is the comedy TV series that satirises the inner workings of British Politics.

Originally aired on BBC Four for the the first two series and specials jumping across to BBC Two for the final two series.

Four series were made totalling 24 episodes and 2 special hour-long episodes to coincide with Christmas and Gordon Brown’s appointment as Prime Minister.

Peter Capaldi who plays Malcom Tucker would go on to play the twelfth incarnation of Doctor Who.

Summary

The plot centres on the fictitious Department of Social Affairs and Citizenship (“DoSAC” – previously the Department of Social Affairs, or “DSA”, prior to the reshuffle of episode five), which supposedly came out of the Prime Minister’s passing enthusiasm for “joined-up government”. Thus, it acts as a “Super Department” overseeing many others, which enables different political themes to be dealt with in the programme, similar to the Department for Administrative Affairs in Yes Minister.
