One Foot In The Grave, Bank Holiday Memories

One Foot In The Grave, The Beast In The Cage, 1992

Continuing a theme of looking back at Bank Holiday excursions as seen through the eyes of sitcom.

This particular episode from 1992, the fifth in series 3, will resonate with many people who’ve faced similar situations in Bank Holiday traffic.

Whilst the episode is set on a summer bank holiday it was filmed in winter near Luton — when, ironically, real cars were driving past the Meldrews during filming. This episode is set in real time in the Meldrews’ car.

Summary

A bank holiday day out turns into a nightmare when the Meldrews and Mrs. Warboys are stuck in a traffic jam staring at a horse’s backside for over four hours.

Attempting to lighten the mood with music, Victor finds a song about him (to the tune of Cwm Rhondda, a Welsh hymn) sung by his car mechanics.
