British actor Patrick Macnee has died at his home in California, aged 93. The Briton, best known for playing John Steed in the 1960s television spy series, The Avengers, died at home with his family at his bedside, his son Rupert said.
The actor saw active service with the Royal Navy during World War Two and despite coming to fame with the culy TV series for which he will always be remembered, The Avengers, he also played roles in theatre, appearing on Broadway.
In 1985 he appeared alongside Roger Moore in the James Bond film A View To A Kill playing an ally.
His death marks the passing of another piece of television history.
