Pygmalion Smith, 1974
Part of the BBC’s long running Comedy Playhouse series, that had started life as Galton and Simpson’s Comedy Playhouse for two series, before the BBC realised the potential of it to find new comedy material and continued it with other writers.
Pygmalion Smith was written by Roy Clarke and was episode ten in series fourteen.
Although it never made it to a full series, the idea of a photographer would be used ten years later, when Roy Clarke wrote The Magnificent Evans for Ronnie Barker.
Summary
Leonard Rossiter plays Smithy (Pygmalion Smith), a photographer who dreams of turning a local fish filleter into a big star.
