Rik Mayall Presents…1993

Rik Mayall Presents..was a generic title given to a number of one off dark comedies that were screened over two series between 1993 and 1995.

Mayall of course had become a household name on the back of hit shows such as: The Young Ones, The New Statesman and The Comic Strip presents.  This series was to showcase the actor’s talent and versatility and it clearly worked.  The show bagged him an award for ‘Best Comedy Performer’ at the British Comedy Awards.

Summary

Series 1

Mickey Love 

Tells the story of an extremely paranoid TV host (Mickey Love) whose career takes a catastrophic turn because of some misinterpreted gossip.

Briefest Encounter

Greg and Siobhan meet at a party and she takes him back to her bizarre flat. What he thinks is going to be an evening of fantastic love making turns out to be a clash of personalities with disasterous results.

Dancing Queen 

Seen by many critics as the most memorable of the three stories.

Neil’s stag night party gets out of hand and he finds himself stuck on a train to Yorkshire with his wedding only a few hours away.  His only fellow passenger turns out to be Pandora, the stripper who performed at his stag do.

Series 2

The Big One 

Tells  the story of a small time estate agent with big ideas and a compulsion to lie.  His wildest dreams start to come true when he adopts the identity of a dead gangster.  However things soon get out of control when he receives unwelcome interest from another gangster intent of recouping some borrowed money.

Dirty Old Town

Raymond is a down and out who unwittingly finds success in the film world when a script lands in his lap – literally – and he is mistaken for the writer.  Despite attempts to persuade the television executives that he is not Vi Leigh, the writer – they wine and dine and house him.

Clair De Lune.

The last story in the series centres on struggling minicab driver Toby and his 7 year old daughter Annie , both of who are facing a bleak future.

However a late night encounter with a beautiful stranger is the catalyst for an adventure involving gangsters, stolen diamonds and a new beginning for tToby and his daughter.
