Star Turn, 1976
In tribute to Bernard Cribbins, 1928 – 2022
This largely forgotten TV show was effectively a kids version of the then popular Give Us A Clue.
Hosted by Graeme Garden and Bernard Cribbins it clocked up a mammoth 60 shows over 8 series between 1976 and 1981.
It was usually broadcast as part of the BBC late afternoon children’s TV.
Summary
Two teams of performers (usually celebrities known to kids) were given various performance tasks (charades, singing, telling jokes, telling stories, etc.). Points were awarded for each task pretty much on the host’s whim.
Star Turn Challenge
Whilst the show was generally known as Star Turn with the performers having no real connection with each other, every other series we had Start Turn Challenge.
Here the format was the same but performers on each team were linked by a show they represented. Memorable teams included The Goodies vs The Liver Birds, Swap Shop vs It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, The News vs Carry On.
