The Gublins

The Gublins, 1977

A forgotten Kids show from the 1970’s (perhaps better best forgotten) and a bit of an oddity.

The Gublins was the final stop-motion series from the British animator Gordon Murray, famous for Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley.  Of the 13 episodes made only 12 had a title and were broadcast on Saturday mornings between 1977 and 1979 as part of Swap Shop.

Gublins was a pun on the better known Goblins.  The Characters themselves were chimp like creations.

Episodes, which were typically 5 minutes long, were narrated in rhyming couplets to a simple acoustic track.

Summary

The stories for each episode related to various folk tales taken from a variety of traditions including Cornish, Scottish, Bohemian and Arabic sources.
