Tom Sloan In Profile, Part 3, Legacy

We’ve been looking at some of the episodes of the classic BBC Comedy Playhouse that made it to a full series.  In doing so it seemed only right to look at the career of the man whose idea it was: Tom Sloan.

In part one we looked at a brief biography and early career, he was doing Eurovision even before Terry Wogan! In part two we looked at his rise to Head Of Light Entertainment and how he brought about Comedy Playhouse.  For this final part we look at some of the shows he was responsible for bringing to our screens.

In 1955, BBC Light Entertainment had just six producers and turned out five programmes a week.  By 1969, Sloan had thirty-four producers under him, responsible for sixteen programmes a week on two channels.
