Goodness Gracious Me

Goodness Gracious Me, Radio (1996) TV Series (1998)

The show that introduced us to the Kumars.

Between July 1996 and June 1998 Goodness Gracious Me ran for two series on Radio, series one aired as four episodes each in 1996 and 1997 and a second and final series of six episodes followed in 1998.

By the time of the second Radio series in 1998 the show was proving so popular it had moved to BBC TV.  This meant in 1998 fans were treated to both a TV and Radio series.

The TV show ran for three series between 1998 and 2000 for nineteen episodes.  In Februry 2001 there was a special episode “Back Where They Came From” with parts filmed in India.  Two reunion specials followed in 2014 and 2015 before the show finally did come to an end.

The series won the award for Best Entertainment Show at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards and the Team Award from the Royal Television Society, UK, both in 1999.

Summary

The series is a sketch based show parodying the conflict and integration between traditional Indian culture and modern British life.
