After You’ve Gone

After You’ve Gone, 2007

After You’ve Gone was one the last traditional sitcoms to star Only Fools And Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst (he would feature in the comedy drama Rock and Chips).

From the creator of My Family After You’ve Gone ran for 3 series and 2 Christmas Specials between 2007 and 2008.   A fourth series was planned with work on scripts already underway.  Then in November 2008 the BBC withdrew the commission and cancelled the series.

Following the abrupt cancellation, there was a proposal to shift the series to radio, making use of the un-filmed but completed scripts for the fourth series.  The series writers felt that it could be a cost effective move as without the cost of scripts the show could have been developed on a cheaper budget.  However the proposal did not come to fruition.

Summary

The series centres around Jimmy Venible , a self confessed  jack-of-all-trades who is probably the only man in Britain who gets divorced and ends up with his mother-in-law.

The Father of two moves back into the marital home to look after his children after his ex wife decides to take her nursing skills to a Third World natural disaster. The only problem for Jimmy is that his mother-in-law decides she’s going to help him.

Adding to Jimmy’s problems are his daughter who’s sure she’s already a woman and a son who dresses like one, and you get a sense of the challenges Jimmy faces as he tries to be a real Father on a daily basis.
