Asylum

Asylum, 1996

Something perhaps a little different.  Asylum was a British comedy series which was shown on pay to view digital channel Paramount Comedy.

The show ran for just 1 series of 6 episodes in 1996.  Despite this Asylum became significant for involving a large number of British comedians, many of whom went on to work on some of the most successful comedy programmes of the 2000s. It’s also significant as it marked the first collaboration of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson who went on to make the cult sitcoms Spaced and Shaun of the Dead.

Summary

Unlike traditional comedy shows Asylum used stand up routines by various comedians, mixed with an overall story that involved much black humour.
