Black Books, 2000

Critically acclaimed Channel 4 sitcom Black Books was the brainchild of Dylan Moran and Graham Lineham.  It ran for three series between 2000 and 2004 , running to eighteen episodes.

As well as being a critical success the show won a number of awards.  These included two BAFTAs for Best Situation Comedy in 2001 and again in 2005.  Black Books also managed a Bronze Rose at the Festival Rose d’Or.

Meet Bernard Black, the owner of Black Books, a small bookshop.

The series revolves around the lives of Bernard, Mannyhis asistant and their friend Fran.

A central theme of the show is Bernard’s persona of a grouchy and misanthropic shopkeeper who has a hatred of the outside world and all the people who inhabit it, except for his best friend, Fran, who initially ran a trendy bric-a-brac shop called Nifty Gifty, next-door to his book shop.
