Black Books, 2000
Critically acclaimed Channel 4 sitcom Black Books was the brainchild of Dylan Moran and Graham Lineham. It ran for three series between 2000 and 2004 , running to eighteen episodes.
As well as being a critical success the show won a number of awards. These included two BAFTAs for Best Situation Comedy in 2001 and again in 2005. Black Books also managed a Bronze Rose at the Festival Rose d’Or.
Summary
Meet Bernard Black, the owner of Black Books, a small bookshop.
The series revolves around the lives of Bernard, Mannyhis asistant and their friend Fran.
A central theme of the show is Bernard’s persona of a grouchy and misanthropic shopkeeper who has a hatred of the outside world and all the people who inhabit it, except for his best friend, Fran, who initially ran a trendy bric-a-brac shop called Nifty Gifty, next-door to his book shop.
