Cockleshell Bay

Cockleshell Bay, 1980

Cockleshell Bay was a stop-motion kids TV series screened in that famous lunchtime slot.  Produced by Cosgrove-Hall (Danger Mouse and Chorlton and the Wheelies fame).

The show had it’s origins as a regular story feature in another cult Kids TV show Rainbow and ran for 104 episodes over 8 series from 1980.

Summary

Twins Robin and Rosie Cockle live at the Bucket and Spade guest house run by their parents Helen and Christopher.

The family had moved to the Bay from a city called “Roughington” because their parents had wanted to leave city life behind, and their Father no longer wanted to work in a factory.

Other characters included Gran Routy (who was no relation to the family, but was known as “Gran” due to her large number of grandchildren) helped out at the house.  Robin and Rosie’s friends  Mr. Ezikiel Shipham (known locally as Mr Ship), Mr. McGinty and his donkey Fury (whom Mr. Ship looked after), as well as Ben Gunn the “pirate seagull”.

In the later series Robin and Rosie had a baby sister called Holly.

The series revolved around Robin and Rosie’s day to day adventures in Cockleshell Bay.
