John Noakes was a TV legend to kids of a certain age.  The action man from Blue Peter.  In 1976 whilst still working on Blue Peter he embarked on his own series: Go With Noakes.

Running until 1980 (two years after leaving Blue Peter) Go With Noakes ran for 31 episodes over 6 series.

The series was produced by BBC Manchester and recorded on film, allowing greater flexibility with the shooting and editing of each week’s subject matter.

Summary

Go With Noakes was effectively a kids documentary series, it was broadly similar to the reports he made for Blue Peter.

Each episode had an adventure-based outdoor theme in keeping with Noakes’s reputation on Blue Peter as a man of action.  In most episodes Noakes is accompanied  by his famous dog Shep, who had left Blue Peter at the same time.

Travelling around the country, Noakes and Shep got involved in diverse activities like motor racing, rowing, aerobatics and painting.

In each series Noakes was seen travelling around Britain in a particular mode, e.g. sailing, narrow boat, walking, open top car, etc.
