One Foot In The Algarve, 1993

First aired in December 1993 some eight months after the end of series 4 One Foot In The Algarve was 1993’s festive offering from the Meldrews, it was also the longest episode of the show running for 90 minutes.

It’s also the only time in in the show’s entire run that another actor received top billing  alongside Richard Wilson and Annette Crosbie.  The actor was show regular Doreen Mantle who plays Mrs Warboys.

Veteran comic Peter Cook also guest stars.

Summary

The Meldrews are off on holiday to Portugal with Mrs Warboys, who is hoping to find romance with her penpal Alfonso.  Believing the holiday makers have a potentially lucrative roll of film that belongs to him Photographer Martin Trout follows them there.

Following an entanglement with the Police they finally arrive in Portugal to find their villa is not quite what they expected.  Mrs Warboys does indeed find love with her Portuguese penpal Alfonso.  However things are not so straight forward for Victor who finds himself being followed by  donkeys follow Victor around.

Meanwhile Victor’s misadventures do help a boxer who is trying to find his inner anger.
