All Good things Must Come To An End

Rising Damp, Come On In, The Water’s Lovely, 1978

All good things come to an end and Rising Damp was no exception.

It’s a mark of a good sitcom that it still holds up as funny 45 years after it ended.

Come On In, The Water’s Lovely was the sixth and final episode of series four of Rising Damp and brought the classic sitcom to an end.

Summary

Rigsby is delighted when he receives a letter informing him of his decree absolute, meaning he is finally divorced.  He can’t wait to tell Philip and Miss Jones.

During dinner together at the house, Rigsby proposes to Miss Jones who accepts.

Rigsby’s brother Ron visits to be the best man and Miss Jones’ posh Mother also comes for the wedding.  Ruth’s Mother initially mistakes Ron for the groom as he is smart in his appearance.  When she finally meets Rigsby she tries to talk Ruth out of it without success.

The day of the wedding arrives and the Rigsby brothers go to the wrong church and by the time they locate the right one the wedding party has gone home.

When Rigsby confesses this to Ruth, she admits that she had cold feet about their wedding and never went to the church in the first place.
