Saturday Superstore

Saturday Superstore, 1982

By March 1982 Swap Shop had come to an end as Noel Edmonds was leaving to present his new Saturday night show The Late Late Breakfast Show.  The BBC were in need of a successor – Saturday Superstore.

Clearly deciding not to tinker with the format too much Superstore’s format was very similar to Swap shop even down to the telephone number, although based around the idea of a ‘Superstore’.

After hitting screens in 1982 Saturday Superstore ran for 142 shows over 5 series ending in 1987.

Summary

Special guests from the world of TV and entertainment are interviewed and take calls from viewers.  Alongside the guests were features such as Pop Panel where guests reviewed the latest singles and kids talent show “Search for a Superstar” which of course in 1986 was won by Claire and Friends who managed to get their single in the charts and even appear on Top Of The Pops.
