Spring And Autumn, 1973
Another forgotten sitcom. Not so much forgotten, more it hasn’t benefited from frequent repeats.
Spring and Autumn was written by the successful writing duo that brought us Nearest and Dearest, Love Thy Neighbour.
It originally aired as a pilot episode in 1972 before going on to run for twenty six episodes over four series between 1973 and 1976.
Tommy is a widowed seventy-year-old retired railway worker. He is also awkward, cantankerous and mischievous.
When his home is demolished he goes to live with his long-suffering daughter Vera. This is not a domestic arrangement welcomed by his son-in-law Brian.
Having left all his old friends behind Tommy feels lost, that is until he strikes up an unlikely friendship with twelve-year-old tearaway Charlie Harris.
