The Norman Conquests, 1977

No it’s not a history lesson, wrong year any way.  The Norman Conquests was a trilogy of plays written in 1973.

The plays each had their own title: Table Manners, Living Together and Round The Garden.

They were first performed in Scarborough, before runs in London and on Broadway.  It was 1977 when Thames television adapted the plays for TV.  Penelope Keith reprised her role as Sarah winning herself a BAFTA for her performance.

Summary

Table Manners

A dysfunctional family gathering for the weekend reunites three siblings and significant others in a small country cottage with farcical consequences.

Living Together

The family gets together at the house of their cantankerous Mother.  Here old resentments, jealousies, and rivalries are reignited.

Round And Round The Garden

Annie has second thoughts about spending the weekend with brother-in-law Norman as the dysfunctional family tries to come to terms with itself.
