ricky gervais returns as david brent in the office christmas specials

The Office

The Office, 2001

This was the show that made Ricky Gervais a household name.  Co – Written with Stephen Merchant the show ran for a total of 14 episodes, two series of 6 episodes each between 2001 and 2002 culminating with a grand finale in 2003 of two forty five minute Christmas Specials.

It’s interesting that despite now being one of the most successful British comedy exports of all time, The Office was nearly cancelled during it’s first season due to poor ratings, echoing the Only Fools And Horses first season.

Such has been the success of this series that in 2014 news boke that we were to catch up with the exploits of David Brent as it was announced plans for David Brent to hit the big screens.

Of course the show was also adapted for the American market where it aired with a new cast as The Office – An American workplace.

Summary

Taking the form of a mocumentary (fictional documentary), with the presence of the camera often acknowledged, the series focuses on the day-to-day lives of office employees in the Slough branch of the fictitious Wernham Hogg Paper Company.

Gervais also stars in the series, playing the central character, David Brent.
