Aspel And Co

Aspel And Co, 1984

This year celebrates 50 years of Commercial Radio or Independent Local Radio as it was known back then.  Whilst in itself it has nothing to do with comedy (apart from Kenny Everett) it seemed fitting to take a look at the presenters and see if there was any comedy connection.

We covered Wogan (himself very funny) and his chats with comic talent, as we did with Michael Parkinson.  Of course both enjoyed long presenting careers on BBC Radio 2.  Michael Aspel presented a three hour weekday morning Radio show on Capital between 1974 and 1984.  He also had a joke slot on Kenny Everett’s Capital Radio show.

However all that aside this post remembers his long running chat show Aspel and Co which ran for 115 shows over 10 series between 1984 and 1993.

Summary

Aspel and Co was A weekly chat show broadcast on a Saturday night in which Michael Aspel interviewed the stars of the day.
