BBC’s Landmark Comedy Season, 2016

What a year it’s been for comedy and it’s not over yet.  Back in March for Sports Relief we were treated to a one off return for Frank Spencer: in a special Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em sketch, for Sports Reief.  This came hot on the heels of an announcement from the BBC that they were launching a “Landmark Comedy Season” to celebrate 60 years since Hancock’s Half Hour first appeared on TV.

BBC media announced that a series of programs would air accross all four BBC TV channels later in the year.  Among the early shows proposed was Up Pompeii, but sadly it never made the final line up (full story).

The season was split into four sections:

Remakes of missing episodes of classic sitcoms
New episodes/updated versions of classic sitcoms
Brand new sitcom pilot episodes
Other (panel shows, documentaries)

The final line up looked like this:

Other:

We Love Sitcom (panel show)
Pointless Celebrities (panel show)
Let’s Talk About Alf (short documentary)
60 Years of Laughing at Ourselves (documentary)
Jimmy Carr And The science Of Laughter: Horizon Special (documentary)

Brand New Pilot Episodes:

The Coopers V’s The Rest

Our Ex Wife
We The Jury
