Beryl’s Lot, 1973

Beryl’s Lot was a comedy drama starring Carmel McSharry, who would later go on to star as Mrs Hollingbury, Alf Garnett’s Neighbour from the hit sitcom In Sickness And In Health.

Inspired by the story of Margaret Powell (1907-1984), a former domestic servant who having undergone a journey of self-discovery and gone on to write a series of bestselling books about her life experiences.

The series ran for 52 episodes over 3 series between 1973 and 1977 and was created by Kevin Laffan who created the long running soap Emmerdale.  Episode lengths were 60 minutes for series 1 and 2 and 30 min for series 3.  Each series comprised 26 episodes.

Summary

Beryl Humphries, is the wife of a milkman, works as a charlady and is content with her life…That is until until her 40th birthday draws near and she begins to wonder if there is more to life than just being a Mother of three and running the family home.
