Eric Morecambe would have been 100 Thursday gone so for this post we look back at some of his finest TV and radio moments and how his centenary has been marked.
Early Years
After teaming up with Ernie Wise ,Morecambe and Wise had an early breakthrough in 1953 with their own radio show You’re Only Young Once
With national fame they made the next move in 1954 with the TV show Running Wild. Not a huge success it was widely panned by critics but the duo bounced back with a regular slot on the Winifred Atwell show.
By 1962 Eric and Ern were back on the box with their own show Two Of A Kind
By 1968 it was off to the BBC in colour perhaps the peak of their career and that classic showdown between Eric and Mr Preview
And the stripper
1978 saw the duo move to Thames TV where they would remain until their last show boxing day 1983
Over the years Eric Morecambe had suffered health problems the massive demands of his career took their toll suffering a heart attack in 1968 and again in 1979, after which he underwent bypass surgery. Sadly it was his heart again when after a charity event in 1984 he collapsed backstage with is third heart attack. He died in hospital just hours later aged just 58.
