Telephone Problems For Alf

From: In Sickness And In Health, Series 3, 1987

Continuing our telephone theme.

In Sickness and In Health marked a change in attitudes at the time and perhaps lacked the bite of Till Death Us Do Part, particularly after the sad passing of Dandy Nichols

All of that aside there were some stand out episodes and in this writer’s opinion the third episode from series three is one such example.

By series three Rita has divorced Mike and moved back to London to marry a Doctor.  Una Stubbs didn’t actually appear in the show after series two.

This particular episode stands out because of the interaction of an array of characters in the corner shop, once again Renu Setna steals the show as Mr Kittel, but there is fine support from Arnold Diamond playing Mr Rabinsky.

Summary

After a commotion over a telephone call from Alf To Rita in Mr Kittel’s corner shop, Rita’s new husband, Dr Thompson gives Alf and Mrs Hollingberry a new cordless telephone.

It’s not long before the arguments start as they each try to claim ownership on the phone.

Alf also causes chaos among his neighbours when he rings everybody he knows, which leads to a series of unfortunate incidents for Arthur and Fred.

When the bill comes in there’s only one solution…a payphone.
