The Ricky Gervais Show

The Ricky Gervais Show, 2010

The Ricky Gervais Show was an American-British animated comedy series produced for and broadcast by American broadcaster HBO in the USA and Channel 4 in the UK.

The series used audio from of the popular British audio podcasts and audiobooks of the same name.  Then using classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon style animation the audio was brought to life so viewers could see: Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant alongside their friend Karl Pilkington, talking about various subjects behind the microphone.

The audio used in the podcasts came from past recordings of a radio show on a London local radio station, XFM, that the three presented from 2001 onwards.  The podcast of the show consistently ranked as the number one podcast in the world.  By March 2011 it had earned a place in the Guiness Book Of World Records as the most downloaded podcast ever with over 300 million downloads.

The Ricky Gervais Show ran for three series between 2010 and 2012 (thirty nine episodes).  Plans for a fourth series with all new audio were shelved.

In the UK the series was first broadcast on Channel 4.  Subsequent series made their debut on E4 before being broadcast on Channel 4.
